			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div id="bodytext"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-707" title="zain" src="http://cediwise.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/zain-logo.gif" alt="zain" width="81" height="115" />Savelugu,(N/R), Oct. 31, (Amankwa), GNA- Zain Communications Network, has donated large quantities of educational material to the Savelugu school for the Deaf in the Savelugu/Nanton District of the Northern Region.</p>
<p>The items donated included readers, school bags, sign writing materials, exercise books and mathematical sets.</p>
<p>Mr. Philip Sowah, Country Director, said donation was being made under the company&#8217;s &#8220;Build our nation&#8221; programme which sought to complement government&#8217;s efforts at providing the educational, cultural and other social needs of the people.</p>
<p>He said the Company believed in role of education plays in that transformation of nations and therefore spends hundreds of dollars every year to ensure that deprived and less endowed schools were provided the necessary resources to enhance effective teaching and learning.</p>
<p>He urged the teachers of the school to encourage the students to use the books judiciously.</p>
<p>Mrs. Adraina Kandlige, the Savelugu/Nanton District Director of Education, said government alone could not provide the educational needs of the people and therefore commended Zain for its kind gesture and called on other organisations to help.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-627" title="vodafone" src="http://cediwise.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/vodafone_logo3.gif" alt="vodafone" width="130" height="105" />(ER) Sept. 26 GNA &#8211; Vodafone Ghana has committed $2,650,000 to the installation of telephone booths for schools in the country. Major Albert B. Don-Chebe (Rtd), Head of Corporate Communication, Vodafone, announced this at the inauguration of four phone booths at the Begoro Senior High School in the Fanteakwa District on Friday. He said the project had rolled out a total of 532 booths in 154 schools so far.</p>
<p>The School booths project, identified as Vodafone Corporate Responsibility entity, was initiated to provide global accessibility to basic telephony in schools.</p>
<p>The booth provides telephone solution particularly in schools where students are not allowed to own and handle mobile phones. Major Don-Chebe said the company would bring additional 143 schools on board by the end of November.</p>
<p>He said the booths were fixed public GSM terminal with all the functions of a standard mobile phone, including making and receiving of calls as well as SMS.</p>
<p>&#8220;The booth allows a user to receive a permanent personal number on a Vodafone network whiles allowing the owner to view, search and add entries to his or her sim phone book amongst other functions. &#8220;The phone has full voice functionality and a pre-paid mode of operation with a Vodafone sim card.&#8221;</p>
<p>Major Don-Chebe said the school booths project did not only benefit students but school authorities and parents as well. Mr Ebenezer Charway, Headmaster, expressed his gratitude to the Management of the company for the efforts they put in to install the booths.</p>
<p>He said it was a timely intervention which would not only help improve upon communication but to a large extent instil discipline among students and enhance their academic performance. Mr Charway appealed to Vodafone to establish an outlet at the school for the sale of credit cards so that students would not have to go to town before buying them.</p>
<p>He also appealed to the company to assist the school to expand its Computer Laboratory and install an internet facility. 26 Sept. 09<br />
